Why is an assessment needed? There are two reasons why an assessment may be needed for migration purposes:
(a) To comply with the code of conduct, prior to providing migration services Australian Migration Agents Licensed by (MARA) must assess client service needs, risks, prospects of success under the Migration Act 1958 and reasonably estimate applicable fees and costs or (b) at the Client’s option, provide comprehensive advice to assist in determining a course of action, a migration pathway or advice and recommendations to assist clients better prepare for consideration under a particular migration scheme or program
What is an Assessment? Depending on the purpose for which it is undertaken an assessment can be described as: the act or process undertaken by a MARA Licensed Australian Migration Agent of considering relevant information about a specific situation under the Migration Act 1958, State Migration Sponsorship Programs, risks, other situational factors and expressing an opinion
How is an assessment done? There is no mandated standard format, process or extensiveness that an Agent must follow, some do a short telephone or video consultation to satisfy their regulatory obligations, others by face to face meeting or via on-line questionnaires and follow up. An Agent who provides comprehensive assessments as a specialist service will need to consider broader relevant factors outside the Migration Act 1958 and State Sponsorship Programs
Are all assessments the same? No, they can differ significantly or completely depending on the purpose for which they are performed, the Agent’s business model, experience and knowledge of associated matters such as Government policies, the Economy, Business fundamentals, Regional development, Employment law and Human Resource factors etc.
